Do you do emergency callouts?

Yes. Handyman London is completely committed to your home’s safety, security and comfort – and that means running an emergency callout service, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can get hold of our on-call tradespeople by calling our mobile emergency hotline. Be aware that emergency callouts may be subject to an unsociable hours charge and a higher hourly rate. There is no obligation to use the service, and our tradesperson may (in some emergencies) be able to guide you in turning off your service supply and waiting until morning.

Do you charge a callout fee?

For normal maintenance, repairs and property work we charge no callout fee – just a straightforward hourly rate. Be aware that our hourly rate varies slightly from job to job, depending on the tradespeople we send to help you. Our minimum hourly rate is £25ph; our maximum is £30ph.
If we have come to your property to quote for a job, we will not charge you for the visit – and there is no obligation to use our services once the quote has been received.
All of our tradespeople are directly employed by Handyman London, and have been exhaustively vetted before being allowed to trade under our name.

What are your normal working hours?

Normally, Handyman London tradespeople work Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm. That’s a 9am start at your property, not a 9am start from our depot! We are able to arrange for work to be completed outside of these hours if that is more convenient to you. Also, as noted, our emergency callout service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Do you have Public Liability Insurance?

Yes, we are covered for all works up to the sum of £100k.

Do you work on Bank Holidays?

Normally, Handyman London employees only come out on Bank Holidays for emergency calls. In some cases, though, we have provided routine work for customers on a public holiday, when it has been agreed as mutually convenient by both parties.

What kind of repairs/maintenance/installations do you do?

What happens if I don’t have any tools?

Don’t worry. All of our employees come equipped for the vast majority of home maintenance and repair work – and we always provide our own tools. A Handyman London van is like a mobile tool shed and repair shop rolled into one, often kitted out not just with the tools needed to do your job but the materials needed to finish it as well.
If we need to buy special materials to complete your project, we’ll add their cost to your final invoice. Alternatively, we can tell you what we need and you can go and buy while we work – this saves you having to pay our tradespeople’s hourly rate while they fetch the extra materials required.

Do I need to be at home while you are working?

No, you don’t have to stay for the duration of the job. If it’s our first project for you, we prefer you to be there at the start and end of the job, so we can get access to the property and be sure it is secure once we have left. For regular customers, we are always prepared to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement – a key left in a certain spot, or with a neighbour, or left with us for use as required.

I don’t want my home life disrupted. Is there anything you can do?

Yes, of course. Most Handyman London jobs take a day to complete, or less – so we can normally guarantee that we arrive when you go to work and leave when you get home. If there are things you need doing that will take more than one working day to complete, we’ll work out a plan of action with you. The work area will be completely cleaned and secured at the end of each day, and we will ensure that all services and living areas are in good shape for your use in the evenings.

What’s the difference between Handyman London and a builder, a plumber or an electrician?

Handyman London is here to help with your everyday jobs and niggles, and to carry out routine maintenance and repairs on your property. A builder, plumber or electrician is used for major projects like extensions, refurbishments and kitchen and bathroom fitting. Our tradespeople are qualified and highly experienced, and complete all the jobs on your “To Do” list with speed and skill.

Do you install domestic appliances?

Yes, we install most domestic appliances including plumbing in of washing machines and dishwashers. Call us for more information, or to book an installation.

What size jobs do you do?

Almost all Handyman London jobs come in at less than a day – normally our jobs last a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of a morning or an afternoon. Occasionally a project requires us to be at your home for a full day – and very occasionally, we may be asked to rectify a list of snags discovered by a homeowner or landlord after an intensive building project, in which case we may stay in the same location for several days. If your project is likely to last longer than a full working week, we would usually recommend that you contact a specialised tradesperson.

What area do you cover?

We cover the whole of London and Greater London. We’re based in East London, and while we make every effort to plan our jobs so the relevant tradespeople are in the right area, sometimes we have to travel across or around the city to get to you. All Handyman London employees are trained to call you with an ETA once they’re on their way from their last job.
